Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

A residential parenting assessment involves parents and children living in our centre for a period of time while we observe and evaluate parenting practices, family routines, and interactions. The goal is to understand strengths and areas for improvement to ensure the child’s needs are being met.

The length of the assessment depends on the specific needs of each family. Most assessments last up to 12 weeks.

We accept referrals for families from:

  • Local authorities.
  • Legal professionals (e.g., solicitors or guardians).
  • Other agencies working with families.

Referrals are typically for families involved in care proceedings or those needing additional support to improve parenting capacity.

During the assessment, our team will:

  • Observe and assess parenting skills and parent-child interactions.
  • Work with you to understand your family’s routines, strengths, and challenges.
  • Provide feedback and practical advice to support you in your parenting role.
  • Prepare a detailed report with findings and recommendations at the end of the process.

While you will need to spend the majority of your time at the centre to allow for observations, arrangements can be made for essential outings (e.g., attending medical appointments or legal meetings). Any outings must be agreed upon with the assessment team in advance.

Yes! Our team is here to support you throughout the process. We provide:

  • Guidance on parenting practices.
  • Emotional support to help you feel confident in your role.
  • Access to resources and programs to strengthen parenting skills.

We are committed to open and transparent communication. If you have concerns about the assessment findings, we encourage you to discuss them with our team. Your views will be included in the final report, and we will work with you to address any misunderstandings.

Our centres are designed to feel like a home away from home and include:

  • Private family accommodations.
  • Communal spaces for play and interaction.
  • A fully equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, and other essentials.
  • Outdoor spaces for children to play and explore safely.

Visitation policies depend on the specifics of the assessment plan. In most cases, we can accommodate visits from partners or other close family members, but this must be arranged with the assessment team in advance.

Yes, we will share the final assessment report with you. We will also explain the findings and recommendations in a clear and supportive way to ensure you understand the next steps.

At the end of the assessment, a report is provided to the referring agency (e.g., the local authority). We will also discuss the findings with you and provide recommendations, which may include:

  • Returning home with continued support.
  • Accessing additional services or programs.
  • Other outcomes as agreed with the referring agency.

You do not need to do anything special to prepare. We recommend:

  • Bringing any personal items that make you feel at home (e.g., clothing, toys for your child, etc.).
  • Keeping an open mind and being willing to engage in the process.
  • Asking any questions, you have in advance we are here to help!
